This Fight's for real |
On the surface it looks like another rags to riches boxing film (there have been plenty), so you wonder whether the world needs another one, and whether you need to see it. What makes this one different? Not sure anything especially does, but there is plenty that makes it good, and worth seeing. What helps most in combination with its true story premise, is the films all round efforts in authentication by way of its natural setting, local casting, HBO styled fight coverage and probably most importantly, Christian Bale's commitment to his character. Combine it all with the best softly spoken do-gooder in the business (Wahlberg) and the flawlessly real human portrayal of his mother (Melissa Leo) and you're away with a film that'll keep you going till the final ding ding ding.
