FILM REVIEW: Horrible Bosses

6 out of 10

Three stooges of 2011

Comedies these days seem to be in a trend (thanks to The Hangover success) of placing ordinary people in incredibly silly and preposterous setups. Such is the way with Horrible Bosses which follows 3 friends in their plans to have their work bosses murdered. The bosses (cleverly cast celebrities in Spacey, Aniston & Farrell) entertain us with their outrageous behavior and give the audience recognisable faces to laugh at. Its the offbeat banter between the 3 main characters I found more amusing however, and would've preferred more of that, then the stunts and set-pieces dumped in as laugh insurance. The set-pieces do payoff more often than not in their defense, and in turn result in an easily enjoyable outing. Comparatively not quite as good as the first Hangover but a lot better than the second.

One geek bit of interesting trivia, Director Seth Gordon is also responsible for documentaries The King of Kong and Freakonomics.
