FILM REVIEW: TRON Legacy

7 out of 10

Eye candy at its sweetest
If you drop me in a world where gladiatorial disc fights take place, lasercycles materialise from sticks and Lady Gaga fem-girls hang out, I'll be happy.  Throw in some spaceships, lots of neon, Jeff Bridges/the Dude/Yoda doing his thing, and I'm smiling for days.  Sure the cost of such visualisation might be skint values on plot, characterisation and dialogue, but come on... neon disc fights!

That's by no means a complete concession on those aspects of the film.  To its credit, TRON Legacy maintains some dignity in itself where something like a Transformers failed so terribly.  The film assumes you are a bit of a geek who will deeply appreciate its pleasures, but will not stand for any cheap wistful temptations of lesser denominations.  The original TRON released 28 years ago brought us something never seen before.  TRON Legacy makes that vision look so so good.
