FILM REVIEW: Footloose

 6 out of 10

Anytime, anywhere. Dancing in Footloose.
It's like eating one of those butter sandwiches your grandma used to make. Sure it's spread a bit thick in places, and probably take you 30mins longer to eat than you'd want, but you still can't help but kinda like it.

To be fair, Footloose probably deserves more credit, because I went in knives sharpened, weapons prepared. But like I said before, I kinda liked it. I think when something becomes so simple, it picks up certain endearing qualities as a default of human nature. They maybe don't have so much to work with, but give it all that they have, which came through in energy and fun, especially during the dance sequences.

Miles Teller, who plays the heroes best friend Willard, deserves special mention here as he pulls off a performance with the best George W. impersonation I've heard in a long time. He is probably 80% of the comic relief in the film as well, and earned it another point in the rating I bestowed.

There's a few slight cringe inducing moments to be had, and the storyline where a small town bans dancing is all for plot and none for 21st century reality, but it could've been a whole lot worse, and thankfully was not.
