CRICKET: Pakistan fizzzz it out for the draw

With 270 needed, and 10 wickets in hand on the last day, you'd expect a result either way.  Alas, was not to be, as Pakistan took the cautious route to block the day out after losing 3 early wickets in the Martin/Southee opening spell.  Cowards!... Sigh... Don't get me wrong, if it'd been us and we'd done the same, we would've labeled our boys heroes, but it wasn't, so those standards don't apply.

Hopes would've been with Vettori on a 5th day wicket after taking 4 in the 1st innings but Pakistan took no chances, and without any obvious pressure at the other end, only let him collect 1 for his 34 over effort.  Disappointing for him in his last test match as captain, but we've lacked teeth as a unit for a long time, and until we find some, those test wins will be a hard hard hard grind.

Come on have a go!... Pakistan, not so.

Yeah my concern is whether it will effect his performance with bat & ball. Leadership had a massive lift on his numbers which really carried the team (mostly in vain considering win:loss record). I like the idea of him being able to focus on his bowling again though, perhaps with more attention. We need him to develop again into the aggressive test wicket taking bowler he should be.

who's going to take over the captaincy? Taylor?

Yeah... McCullum is the only real other option and I think Taylor's personality suits the job better at the moment. McCullum has to concentrate on developing his test match opening spot which is new and doing good for him. Captaincy for Taylor might add to his focus at the crease, which lets him down at times.
