CRICKET: Can Southee save us?

Southee: One spell wonders?
He's a smart bowler with good control and the ability to take wickets in clumps (his debut against England 5/55, the Aussie top order in Brisbane 2009, and most recently first ODI against Pakistan).  The problem has been his inability to string similar performances together, in periods after.  In both the test matches quoted above, he went wicketless in the second innings.  His youth & potential shown in such glimpses has kept him secure in our squad, but inconsistency has meant that he has often been rotated out.

Bowling conditions have been favourable when he has done well, but they are unlikely to be in India.  Alan Donald is an excellent NZC steal, and hopefully he'll be able to impart the venom that sometimes seems lacking. At the moment Southee's bowling average is 33.12 econ 5.36 in 39 ODIs.  Set to be our spearhead, these stats will have to improve if we are to have a chance.
