One could understand a move for Marco to an established overseas club, which he is good enough to get, but to ditch the Phoenix for the Melbourne Victory??? That really stabs at the heart. Actually, signing for the Melbourne Heart would've stabbed at the heart, but this is pretty damn close.
God knows what went wrong between the rising young star and the Phoenix, but signs weren't good when Herbert was quoted last week saying Rojas' future was down to a matter of loyalty. The slightly loaded statement indicated demands were made that could not be met, and though the Phoenix have denied this, the fiasco with the Shane Smeltz transfer, rings it familiar. Chuck in the transfer and immediate rise of Costa B, and the Phoenix are starting to breed the unwanted reputation of building good players for other A-League clubs.
It will make for a very interesting 2011/2012 season, especially with regards to the fan reaction who assisted the Rojas cause quite significantly (by way of sponsorship) to get him seen by the Phoenix in the first place.
