CRICKET: Hands raised by all against Canada

The Black Caps are now in the previously unfathomable position of having a selection dilemma with regards to good form after today's performance against a spirited Canada.  Huge underdogs, their bowling attack was never going to be able to restrict the aggressive top and middle order and the 354 amassed was a true reflection of that.  In the end, 261 in reply was valiant in chase, but never threatening with little concern in prospect of being chased down.

McCullum acknowledges a good hundred
Even though it had a trial run feel to it, several aspects of the game will be pleasing for the Black Caps.  McCullum's hundred the obvious pick, but Ross Taylors blitz continuation cements the fact his eyes are now fully in.  Kane Williamson got his first start and provided a useful 30 n.o to remind the selectors that in a team of stroke-makers, his plaudits of a steady tinkerer, have selection merit.  Quite oppositely Franklin, who seemed on the outer due to his inability to perform that particular role, unleashed a mini endgame spectacle with his 31 off 8 with some monster sixes to seal the deal.  It may just be have been enough to keep him in the the team as someone will have to make way for Vettori in the next fixture against Sri Lanka.  Williamson's best chance to make the team is on the rationale that his technique for tackling the tricky spin of Mendis and Murali, might be more advanced than Franklin's in order to rotate during the middle overs.

I can bat too!... Williamson chips in
The pace attack looks solid with the only concern being the early exit of Kyle Mills after taking 2 quick wickets. Word is that it was precautionary and he should be right.  Given that the Black Caps have already qualified however, Hamish Bennett might find his way into the team to give either Southee or Mills a rest before it all matters.  The game still has great significance however in that if the team can pull off another win against a top nation we'll know the pinches are real.
