CRICKET: Blackcaps start OK in IPL4

Tim Southee has provided the most pivotal contribution amongst the generally good performances of the  Blackcaps present at the beginning of IPL4.  Although he was expensive at first, his death overs secured Chennai the game, including the dramatic last over where he prevented the 7 runs needed for victory.  Styris, playing in the same match, didn't have much to do but executed a run out of the most expensive man in the game (Gambhir) and took a catch off his teammates bowling.

Oram and Taylor then featured in the comfortable Royals win over Deccan.  Oram bowled a couple of overs with 5 overthrows spoiling his economy only a little.  Taylor finished the game off with a quick-fire 21.  Very easy match.

McCullum and Vettori then went head to head with Vettori's Challengers coming out the victors.  His spell of 1/17 off 4 strangled the Tuskers who were lead to a good start by McCullum's 45 off 32.  Royal Bangalore for my money have the best team in the comp.  Dilshan, de Villiers, Kohli, S Tiwary, Z Khan, Nannes and Vettori.  Great balance.

Jimmy Franklin was a bit of a bystander as Malinga single handedly destroyed Delhi.  Bowled one expensive over.  A win's a win.  Jesse Ryder was more significant in his teams win over Kings Punjab with 31 off 17 and 3 economical overs and a wicket with the ball.

Great shot of the big man
More match ups to come.  Will track their progress with interest.
